Understanding Your Capacity Throughout the Day

We have all had days when our experience seems to tell a different story than a single number.

You may get seven or eight hours of sleep and still wake up with less energy than expected. A workout may produce only a moderate average heart rate but feel especially demanding. Or your physical readings may look relatively normal while meetings, travel, stress, and emotional demands leave you with less capacity later in the day.

That is because your current condition is never reflected by just one metric.

Sleep, exercise, recovery, stress, and everyday life can all influence how much capacity you have available for training, work, and other daily activities. HybridCharge™ is designed to help answer one deceptively simple question:

How much physical and mental capacity do I have available right now?

A Personalized View of Your Current Capacity

HybridCharge provides a personalized score that reflects your estimated capacity for physical and mental activity.

A higher score generally indicates more available capacity for demanding activities. A lower score may suggest that your capacity is more limited and that a lighter pace or additional recovery could be appropriate.

The same workout, night of sleep, or stressful experience can affect two people differently. Even for the same person, its potential impact may change depending on recent training, recovery, physiological signals, and life circumstances.

HybridCharge therefore does not simply subtract points according to workout duration or calculate recovery from sleep duration alone. It brings multiple signals together and interprets them in relation to your personal patterns.

The result is not a single verdict delivered at wake-up. It is a dynamic view of how your capacity may be expended or replenished throughout the day.

How Does HybridCharge Work?

HybridCharge combines two broad types of information.

The first is objective data collected by your wearable, including:

  • Sleep and overnight recovery
  • Heart rate and resting heart rate
  • Heart rate variability, or HRV
  • Daily activity and workouts
  • Physiological stress and recovery trends

These signals form the foundation of the HybridCharge score. Rather than applying one universal standard to everyone, HybridCharge interprets your readings against your own historical patterns and personal baseline.

No single measurement tells the complete story. HRV and resting heart rate, for example, can provide useful information when viewed in context, but neither acts as a standalone signal that determines whether you should train or rest.

Sleep also involves more than total duration. Duration matters, but sleep timing, regularity, stages, time spent awake during the night, and naps can all add context to the recovery picture. Two nights with the same sleep duration can therefore be followed by very different days.

The second type of information is context you provide, including LifeLoad™ events and post-workout RPE.

RPE stands for Rate of Perceived Exertion and describes how difficult a workout felt to you. LifeLoad lets you record experiences your wearable may not be able to identify directly, such as mood, energy, work demands, travel, caffeine or alcohol consumption, and recovery activities.

These subjective inputs do not replace or override your physiological data. They add relevant context that can help HybridCharge interpret what may have been happening alongside the signals measured by your wearable.

Your Capacity at the Beginning and End of the Day

Your capacity can change as your day unfolds, so HybridCharge places particular emphasis on two points in time.

Wake HybridCharge: Your Starting Point

Your Wake HybridCharge score reflects your estimated capacity at the beginning of the day.

It considers overnight sleep and recovery, HRV, resting heart rate, recent activity, and relevant LifeLoad context. A higher morning score generally indicates more available capacity, while a lower score may reflect a more limited starting point.

The score does not prescribe whether you should train, rest, or change your plans. Instead, it helps you understand where you are starting so you can consider that information alongside your goals and how you feel.

Evening HybridCharge: Your Remaining Capacity

As the day continues, work, commuting, exercise, cognitive effort, and stress may expend capacity. Rest, sleep, naps, and other recovery activities may help replenish it.

Your Evening HybridCharge score builds on your morning starting point and considers your activity, workouts, recovery, and reported LifeLoad context during the day. It reflects how much estimated capacity you may have remaining later on.

A higher evening score may indicate that you still have capacity for additional activity. A lower score may suggest that reducing demands and preparing for restorative sleep could be helpful.

Together, the Wake and Evening scores make HybridCharge more than a morning snapshot. They help you understand how your estimated capacity changes from morning to night.

Why Heart Rate Cannot Tell the Whole Workout Story

Heart rate is a useful measure of cardiovascular response, especially during steady endurance activities such as running or cycling. However, it may not capture the full demands of strength or mixed training.

A workout involving loaded carries, squats, rowing, and frequent transitions may produce the same average heart rate as a steady run while placing very different demands on the body.

HybridCharge therefore considers heart rate alongside available session information, such as exercise type, structure, timing, and cadence. RPE can add context about how difficult the workout felt, while recent training helps place the session within your personal pattern.

Together, these inputs may help HybridCharge interpret whether a workout appears more cardiovascular or muscular in nature. It does not directly measure muscle damage, tissue strain, joint load, or biomechanical stress, and the available level of detail can vary by workout type.

LifeLoad: Adding Context Sensors Cannot Capture

Wearables can measure physiological signals, but they cannot fully identify experiences such as work pressure, travel, mood, caffeine or alcohol consumption, and recovery activities. LifeLoad allows you to add this context through a selected event or your own description.

When logging an event, record when it happened and how much it affected you. The same experience can affect different people — or the same person on different days — in different ways.

A LifeLoad event is generally reflected within one hour of the time you indicate it occurred. Depending on its type, timing, and reported impact, it may adjust how your HybridCharge score is expended or replenished from that point in the day.

LifeLoad does not replace physiological data or simply add another fixed load to your score. It provides context that may help explain changes that sleep and workout data alone do not fully capture.

What HybridCharge Does—and Does Not—Tell You

HybridCharge brings together physiological signals, training information, and personal context to provide a more complete view of your capacity. That view should be understood within the right boundaries.

HybridCharge does not diagnose sleep disorders, illness, injury, burnout, mental health conditions, or any other medical condition. It does not turn a single HRV or resting-heart-rate reading into a training decision. It does not establish that one LifeLoad event directly caused a specific physiological change. It also does not tell you to train harder, train less, or change your plan.

Instead, it can help you recognize possible relationships and personal patterns.

Its value is not only in the score, but also in the questions it can help you consider:

  • How much capacity do I appear to have at the start of today?
  • Why might two days with the same amount of sleep feel different?
  • What did that workout demand beyond its average heart rate?
  • How much capacity may I have remaining?
  • What patterns connect my sleep, training, physical readings, and LifeLoad context ?

HybridCharge does not make decisions for you. It provides a more connected view to support your own decisions about training, recovery, work, and daily activities.
